Derek's FUDGE Page

What the heck is FUDGE? It's a free role-playing game, written by Steffan O'Sullivan, and generously made freely available by him over the internet. FUDGE stands for "Freeform Universal Do-it-yourself Gaming Engine." It's a universal RPG, meaning that it is designed to be playable in any genre. It's a word-based game, meaning that it is easily translated to and from other game systems, and that it's easy to understand what levels make characters skilled or unskilled. (Ie, rather than saying, "My character is a level 14 swordsman," you can simply say, "My character is a Great swordsman.") It's also just about the most flexible RPG imaginable, as the GM and players have the freedom to decide how simple or complex they want their characters to be. There are no set character classes, no set skill list ... not even any set attributes!

"Okay! FUDGE sounds great! Where can I get a copy?!?"

Right here for one! This is my own layout of the FUDGE rules in PDF format (zipped). It will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view. If you check out my version, email me and let me know what you think of it. There are some very minor inaccuracies in the page numbers as listed in the Table of Contents. These will be fixed when I find the time.

There is a printed and bound version (shown above) published by Grey Ghost Games. It may be available at your local retailer, or you can visit Grey Ghost's web site for ordering info. (Clicking on the image above will also take you to Grey Ghost's site.) There are also various downloadable versions at their site, including plain text, LaTeX, HTML, and another PDF version. There are also links to many FUDGE resources.

There is a FAQ for FUDGE (as well as more links to FUDGE resources) at Steffan O'Sullivan's web site.

The FUDGE image is Grey Ghost's. It's used without permission, but since I'm plugging their game and their web site, I hope they won't mind. Original FUDGE materials © 1992-1995 by Steffan O'Sullivan. All Rights Reserved.
